Seal Registration, Marriage Registration, and Land Acquisition for Foreigners

Personal Seal Registration for Foreigners

  • Any foreigner living in Jung-gu may register for a personal seal by presenting their foreigner registration card, passport, and the seal to be used as a signature. (The whole last name should be indicated, but it is possible to abbreviate the first name.)

Marriage Registration for Foreigners

  • Foreigner marriage registration can be completed by bringing your ID card, seal of the person who got married, and the seals (signatures) of two witnesses to the relevant city, gun, or gu office [in case of a foreigner, it is necessary to have a certificate verifying the marriage requirements and an original copy of a certificate of nationality (passport) as well as a translated version (with name, contract number, and signature of translator)].
    There is no registration period, but foreigners should report their marriage (marriage certificate) within three months from the date of getting married.

Land Acquisition for Foreigners

  • When a foreigner signs a contract to acquire land in Republic of Korea, the foreigner should report to the mayor, governor, or head of the gu office within 60 days of signing the contract.
  • If acquiring land through inheritance, auction, etc., the foreigner should report to the mayor, governor, or head of the gu office within six months of acquisition. Approval from the mayor, governor, or head of the gu office must be received in advance regarding the trade of land in military facilities, cultural heritage protection areas, ecological preservation areas, and wildlife protection areas.
  • Also, foreigners may acquire agricultural land if they receive an agricultural land acquisition qualification certificate, and will pay the same acquisition tax, revenue stamp fee, certificate stamp fee, and bond as Korean citizens.
